NEVADA HUMANITIES ANNOUNCES NEXT GRANT DEADLINE AND RECENT GRANT AWARDS 
Through an extensive grant program, Nevada Humanities supports programs that emphasize community discussion of significant issues, encourage critical thinking and reflection, preserve Nevada history and heritage, and strengthen the cultural institutions of the state. Nevada Humanities is a nonprofit organization that creates and supports projects throughout the State of Nevada that broaden perspectives. 
 
Spring Grant Deadline 
Nevada Humanities next grant deadline is March 10, 2008, for grants of $1,000 to $5,000.

Nonprofit organizations and government agencies are encouraged to contact Nevada Humanities staff to discuss their ideas for humanities programming.

Recent Grant Awards 
During its fall grant cycle, Nevada Humanities funded programs by eight Nevada nonprofit or governmental organizations. With a decline nationally in public discourse, Nevada Humanities is especially interested in fostering civic and civil dialogue on contemporary topics of interest to Nevadans. Two recently awarded grant projects address this need for thoughtful community discussion. 
  
University of Nevada Cooperative Extension received a grant of $5,000 for a program entitled Policy Education and Civic Engagement (PEACE). This curriculum project for middle school teachers touches on such topics as political philosophy, history, current Nevada issues and civic knowledge. The object of the PEACE program is to encourage critical thinking, broaden student perspectives, and increase political tolerance by supporting a diversity of opinions. Bethel Housing Development Corporation received a grant of $5,000, which will help support programs at the Race, Faith and Diversity Conference. Nevada Humanities is supporting a series of workshops on racial and cultural insensitivity and the importance of faith communities in addressing these problems. For more information, contact the Rev. The Nevada Shakespeare Company for Shakespeare in the Schools. The program will bring the Bard to schools in all 17 Nevada counties.

The National Automobile Museum’s seventh history symposium, The 1900’s, Bustling Into the Modern Age, is an in-depth examination of the decade for teachers and the community.
