  • Twitch twitch.tv/humanitiesatplay (map)

Join us for an exciting and educational stream as we explore the world of Sable with Joseph Kent, Director of Curation and Exhibits for the Atomic Museum in Las Vegas. During our time together, we’ll get to learn about nuclear testing history, Atomic Age culture, storytelling in media, and more. Audience participation and questions are encouraged and welcome!

Since August 2022, Joseph Kent has served as the Director of Curation and Exhibits for the Atomic Museum. Prior to this, Kent served as the Director of Education for the Atomic Museum for 6 years. In his current role, he manages the museum’s collection of artifacts, oversees the design and development of its exhibits, and trains and supervises their team of curatorial interns.

With a passion for museums and educating the public, Kent shares the critical work that took place, and continues to take place, at the Nevada National Security Site, formerly the Nevada Test Site. Kent plays a key role in the museum’s efforts to preserve the history of the site, its workers, and those impacted by nuclear testing. In addition, Kent enjoys supporting education programs and collaborating with local, national, and international institutions to enhance the experiences that the museum offers.

Before joining the Atomic Museum team, Kent worked as the Site Manager and Program Developer for the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site located in Madison, Indiana. He also served as the Director of Education for the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, Texas.

Kent earned his bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in public history and museum studies from Ohio Northern University. He earned his master’s degree in history with a focus in public history from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and was raised in Western Pennsylvania. Kent currently resides in Las Vegas with his wife Jennifer and two cats.
