The Mojave Desert is a sparse, unforgiving, barely inhabitable environment and Las Vegas, erupting from the center of it, is a conspicuous rebellion against austerity. With its gleaming casinos, growling F1 race cars, giddy roller coasters—in short, glittering toys—Sin City laughs out loud at the desolation of the desert.
In Neon Keepsakes: Nevada Authors on Toys and Trifles, writers from Las Vegas and beyond drop into the Mojave’s vast sandbox and ask what it means to chase pleasure in a place that punishes extravagance.
