[Partnership Event] Caroline Tracey in Conversation with Meg Bernhard

  • The Writer's Block 519 South 6th Street Suite 100 Las Vegas, NV, 89101 United States (map)

Join author Caroline Tracey in conversation with Meg Bernhard to discuss Tracey’s new book Salt Lakes: An Unnatural History. In Salt Lakes, Tracey travels across four continents to seek out and describe Earth’s vanishing salt lakes and the people dedicated to saving them. Tracey takes readers along on her adventures by train in Kazakhstan and on an inflatable raft in California, on her encounter with Mormon environmentalists in Utah and an Australian Aboriginal painter seeking to capture her country for her children. In evocative prose, she traces shorebirds’ seasonal migration and the history of water law.

Caroline Tracey holds a PhD in geography from the University of California, Berkeley. Her work in English and in Spanish has appeared in The New Yorker, New York Review of Books, and elsewhere. Originally from Colorado, she lives in Tucson, Arizona.

Meg Bernhard is a journalist and essayist from southern California. Her work has been published in the New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, the Virginia Quarterly Review, the Las Vegas radio station KNPR, and other places. The author of the 2023 book Wine, from Bloomsbury, she's currently at work on a book about the world's deserts for Random House.

This event is hosted by The Writer’s Block and is co-sponsored by the Beverly Rogers, Carol C. Harter Black Mountain Institute and Nevada Humanities.
