Humanities at Play: Storytelling and Narrative Tropes in Digital Media with Kahlo R. F. Smith

Join Nevada Humanities on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 6:00 pm PT for gameplay and conversation with Kahlo R. F. Smith, writer and MFA teaching associate at the University of Nevada, Reno. During this livestreamed event, we will discuss memory and mental health, narrative tropes, and more as we play through games Cube Escape: The Lake and Year Walk. Additional programs with Kahlo Smith will take place on Wednesdays June 18 and June 25 at 6:00 pm PT.

Kahlo R. F. Smith (she/it) was born in the redwoods of Felton, CA and is pursuing an MFA in Fiction at the University of Nevada, Reno. She writes about cryptids, children's theme parks, rat queens, and other monsters. Her writing haunts the pages of Last Girls Club, Luna Station Quarterly, and Trembling With Fear, and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize by Fatal Flaw.

Kahlo holds BAs in Anthropology and Religious Studies, and currently teaches undergraduate writing courses in the UNR English Department. Its research in Monster Studies has shocked and horrified at the PCA National Conference and the UCSC Festival of Monsters.
