[Partner Event] Reading and Presentation with Sydney Martinez

  • Vegas Theater Company 1025 S. 1st Street, Las Vegas (map)

This event is co-sponsored by Nevada Humanities and The Writer’s Block.

Stop by the The Writer’s Block in Las Vegas on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for a reading and presentation with Sydney Martinez, author of Finding Nevada Wild.

Offering an entry point to understanding the landscapes, culture, and people of Nevada, this inspiring and personal ode to the Silver State takes curious adventurers off the grid to experience a version of the state few people truly know.

When many people think of Nevada, they think of Las Vegas, Area 51, and an unending, empty desert–but there’s a lot more to the Great Basin State than that. Author and dedicated Nevada aficionado Sydney Martinez has devoted many years to exploring the ultra-rural wonders of Nevada, and in Finding Nevada Wild, she helps fellow adventurers get to know an often-misunderstood state.

Sydney Martinez wakes up with alkali in her blood, sagebrush in her hair, and Nevada on the brain.

Devoting as much time as humanly possible to learning the deepest, darkest corners of Nevada’s ultra-rurals, the people who protect them, and the bridge between the two, Sydney has professionally written about and photographed Nevada for nearly 20 years. Her work as a rural Nevada locations expert led to consulting for many Nevada local, state and federal agencies, including Nevada BLM, the Nevada Film Office, Nevada State Parks, Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology, Nevada Division of Outdoor Recreation, and PBS Nevada. She now focuses on developing her own brand, Finding Nevada Wild, while pursuing turquoise silversmithing under Song Dog Silver.

She’s spent more nights in the back of her pickup truck than at home, which is exactly where she wants to be, so long as she’s got her husband Jonathan, dog Elko, and a Nevada hot spring bubbling up somewhere close by.
