To commemorate the ten-year anniversary of the Basin and Range National Monument, curators Paula Jacoby-Garrett, Julian Kilker, and Checko Salgado, working with the Friends of Basin and Range National Monument, curated a photography, video, and multimedia exhibition documenting this remote region of Nevada. The exhibition also includes works by Fred Bell, Jim Boone, Glenn A. Davis (courtesy of Sarah Jones at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, University Libraries, Special Collections and Archives), Steve Dudrow, Myron Hensel, Mike Hill, Rayette Martin, and Teresa Skye.
The Basin and Range National Monument was created by Presidential Proclamation on July 10, 2015, because of its unique geologic, natural, cultural, and scientific resources and values. The Basin and Range National Monument is located several hours by car north of Las Vegas, Nevada. The monument includes Garden and Coal valleys, the Worthington and Seaman Mountains, the Golden Gate and Mount Irish ranges, Hiko and White River narrows; and Shooting Gallery rock art site. The monument features 1,100 square miles of vast spectacular undeveloped mountains and valleys in southeastern Nevada, and its protected status preserves geological, historical, and cultural features for future generations while continuing to provide access for recreation, grazing, and military training.
Nevada Humanities Program Gallery is open for viewing Monday – Friday, 1:00 to 5:00 pm, and on the first Friday of the month until 10:00 pm for First Friday events.
